What’s Splendor X Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is one of the most popular aesthetic procedures for women and men. At Complexions Med Spa, we use state-of-the-art technology: SPLENDOR X, from Lumenis.

Splendor X is the best laser on the market. It uses two laser wavelengths: Alexandrite 755 & Nd:YAG 1064. The Alexandrite is best for lighter skin, and the Nd:YAG is used on darker skin tones.

Why does this matter? Because this technology has the capability of using both these wavelengths simultaneously, making the process fast, effective, and more comfortable.



Laser Hair Removal FAQ’s

How does it work?

Laser hair removal uses laser light energy with a specific wavelength. During treatment, lasers emit energy in the form of light on the skin. The melanin in the hair absorbs this energy and converts it into heat, destroying the hair follicles to prevent or stop future growth.

Why Splendor X?

The BLEND X technology combines Alexandrite and Nd:YAG wavelengths for a treatment personalized to your skin, making it fast, effective, and comfortable.

Additionally, the SPLENDOR X has a unique square laser that safely covers every inch of the treatment area. As a result, it can cover large areas of the body, such as the back, in less time than other lasers on the market. Ultimately, this technology means you will have fast appointment times and need fewer treatments.

What areas of the body can be treated?

Laser hair removal is a great option for both men and women. Common treatment locations for women include the face, arms, armpits, legs, and bikini line/brazilian.

The most common treatment areas for men include the face, beard line, neck, chest, shoulders, and back.

Is it painful?

Removing body hair is rarely painless; however, the SplendorX has unique features to make it less painful and more comfortable than other lasers on the market.

Specifically, SPLENDOR X has a unique Dual Cooling System to make the treatment more comfortable while protecting your skin. This technology combines Cryo-Touch and Cryo-Air. The cryo tip delivers cold air over the laser beam, which actively removes heat from tissue.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of laser hair removal sessions you might need will vary. Depending on the area of the body, it can take 6-8 appointments minimum. It may be more or less depending on your goals and skin type.

All laser hair removal patients will need to schedule a free consultation before any treatments occur.

Why do I need a consult?

We require every patient to schedule a consultation to determine if this is an appropriate option for you. During your consult, your laser hair removal technician will:

Examine your medical history, including medication use, history of skin disorders, scarring or tattoos, and past hair removal procedures.
Discuss what to expect before, during, and after the procedure – paying particular attention to guidelines for sun protection.
Review risks, including what Splendor X can and can’t do.
Determine your treatment plan, including the number of sessions and out-of-pocket costs. We have packages available for maximum savings.

What to expect during the procedure?

The technician will provide special goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beam. Once ready, they’ll press the hand-held laser to your skin and talk you through each step as they go.

During the procedure, you might feel slight discomfort. The heat from the laser may feel like a pinprick; however, the Cryo Air and a Cryo Touch tip protect your skin, making it more comfortable and less painful.

Additionally, a built-in smoke evacuator and HEPA filter provide a smoke-free environment that can result from burnt hair.

What to expect after the procedure?

How the area will look right after treatment varies from person to person. Depending on your skin, you might notice some redness or swelling around the hair follicles after your procedure. To reduce any discomfort, apply ice to the treated area.

After laser hair removal and between scheduled treatments, avoid sunlight (including tanning beds) and follow the post-procedure directions provided by your technician to prevent any adverse reactions.

What are the risks?

SPLENDOR X treatments are generally suitable for everyone – even tanned skin. It’s great for all body areas and types of hair. However, laser removal may not be right for everyone and does carry some risks.

Laser hair removal isn’t suitable if you have an active infection or inflammation such as viral, fungal, or bacterial diseases. Also, if you have active cold sores, open wounds, or abrasions in the treatment area, you will not be able to have this procedure.

Risks may include changes to skin pigmentation and texture. Ultimately, the chances of side effects vary with skin type and hair color. Side effects can increase if you avoid the detailed pre- and post- instructions your technician provides at your consult.

What results can I expect?

Lasers are effective when hair is at an early growth stage. However, because not all hairs will be at the same stage at the same time, you’ll need multiple sessions to reduce or permanently remove the unwanted hair. Your technician will estimate the sessions required for your goals during your consult.

Hairs do not fall out immediately. Instead, they shed over days to weeks. At first, this may look like continued hair growth. However, when hair grows back, it’s usually finer and lighter in color. That’s why repeated treatments are generally necessary to achieve the desired results.
