What are Injectables

& Fillers?

Injectables and fillers are ways to improve your appearance without surgery. Facial lines occur due to a combination of factors such as age, reduction of collagen, free radical damage from chemicals, sun, and environment. In addition, repeated expression lines from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows can cause wrinkles to form.

At Complexions Med Spa and Northern Oklahoma Dermatology, we offer BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and JUVÉDERM®. Botox and Dysport reduce fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the underlying muscles. Alternatively, fillers, like JUVÉDERM®, raise the facial volume in the skin and fill in the creases, resulting in a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. What is Botox?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the first and only FDA-approved treatment to improve moderate to severe frown lines temporarily. It works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults. It delivers predictable, subtle results, so you look like you, only with less noticeable facial lines.

What is Dysport?

Dysport® temporarily treats moderate to severe frown lines, specifically between the eyebrows, by reducing specific muscle activity. Repeated movements and muscle contractions cause wrinkles. One injection into each of the 5 points between and above the eyebrows temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines. As a result, get natural-looking results that look and feel like you.

What is Juvederm?

JUVÉDERM® is best for wrinkles that are visible when your face is resting. It is a smooth gel filler made of hyaluronic acid that can help replenish the areas of the face where there is a loss in skin volume and fullness due to age, sagginess, etc. JUVÉDERM® offers five different filler options targeting your lips, cheeks, or chin, depending on your unique needs.

Is it painful?

BOTOX®, Dysport®, and JUVÉDERM® injections may have brief discomfort. Although the injections use a small needle, some patients report feelings of pinching or stinging.

Side effects may include mild bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site; however, they should dissipate relatively quickly. However, there is a possibility of minimal downtime. But generally, the majority of patients resume their regular daily routines immediately.

Follow all pre- and post-care instructions to maximize results and minimize side effects.

When will I see results?

Many patients notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines, with full results in 30 days. Unfortunately, injectables and fillers are not permanent treatments. Therefore, ongoing treatments are needed to maintain your desired look. If you discontinue treatment, your fine lines and wrinkles will gradually return.
